The countdown is officially on! In just a few short days, more than 800 Gators will walk through our doors and Greenwood will come alive again. The music will be playing, teachers will be ready, friendships will begin, and our halls will once again be filled with the energy that makes Greenwood so special.
This week isn't just about getting ready for school. It's about getting ready to belong. From Open House to our Night Before School reading to the first day, we have several opportunities to connect, ask questions, build excitement, and make sure every Gator feels ready to Win the Morning!

Meet your teacher, bring your supplies, download ParentSquare, PowerSchool, and RCA, and get your family ready for Day 1.
2️⃣ GET EXCITED — Night Before School | Sunday, August 23 | 7 PM
Grab a blanket, get cozy, and join us for our annual Greenwood Night Before School virtual reading!
3️⃣ GET READY — First Day - Staggered Start
Grades 1–5 and the first half of PK/Kindergarten students (A–L) begin school.
Grades 1–5 and the second half of PK/Kindergarten students (M–Z) begin school.
Wednesday, August 26 is the first day all Gators attend together!

We are looking for students, alumni, parents, and community members to play the piano on Mondays or drums on Wednesdays from 7:15–7:45 AM once our school doors open for the most magical year yet! These moments of music, connection, and joy help create a welcoming school environment where students feel a strong sense of belonging from the moment they walk through our doors. Thursday, August 20 - Open House: 9AM - 12PM
We can't wait to welcome everyone back for Open House on Thursday, August 20, from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM! Bring your school supplies, meet your teachers, ask your questions, and get everything ready for a successful Day 1 of school. All parents will be asked to have the 3 bigs apps on your phone before heading to the classrooms. These apps are ParentSquare, PowerSchool, and RCA. We also hope you visit our PTA to purchase a house shirt, green take home folder and join the PTA before heading to the classroom. Sunday, August 23 - The Night Before School Virtual Reading @ 7 PM
We are excited to continue our Greenwood tradition of reading a book created by our staff to get students excited for their first day of school! This special evening also gives parents an opportunity to ask those final questions before school begins and helps everyone start the year with confidence. Monday, August 24 - First day of School
Half of our Pre-K and Kindergarten students (A–L) will attend for their first day, while all students in grades 1–5 will attend. We are excited to welcome our Gators back and kick off another amazing school year together!
Monday, August 24 - New Student (1st-5th) House Reveal
We are excited to welcome all of our new 1st–5th grade students into one of our five Greenwood Houses! Each student will receive a special prize pack and instantly gain approximately 150 housemates, teammates, and friends. We consider ourselves a mosh pit school culture—a place where everyone belongs, everyone contributes, and everyone celebrates one another. We will share more about our House System at Back to School Night and during an upcoming Spilling the Tea with Mr. Stein!
Tuesday, August 25 - Second Half of Pre-K & Kindergarten Begin
The second half of our Pre-K and Kindergarten students (M–Z) will attend for their first day, while all students in grades 1–5 will continue their regular school schedule. Students in (A-L) will remain at home. We can't wait to have all of our youngest Gators officially underway!

Friday, August 28 - Spilling the Tea: Morning Clubs @ 9 AM
What are morning clubs? Which clubs perform at pep rallies? What time does my child need to be at school to participate in a club? Why are morning clubs so important? We'll answer all of these questions and more during our virtual meeting! If you're new to Greenwood or simply want to learn more about our Win the Morning experience, this is the meeting for you.

Our morning clubs fill up fast! Be ready to register at 6:00 PM on Sunday, August 30. We'll share the full list of Quarter 1 clubs and registration information before registration opens, so start thinking about how your Gator wants to Win the Morning!
Introducing Amplify Desmos Math
We are so excited to introduce a new math program at Greenwood this school year! Greenwood is one of only two schools selected to pilot Amplify Desmos Math before it is implemented across all 46 Henrico County Public Schools beginning in 2027–2028. This is a tremendous honor and speaks volumes about the strength of our math teachers, our instructional practices, and the support we provide to our students.
