Greenwood Families,
We are excited to begin the 4th quarter with a full week of learning ahead! Our students will be engaged in rigorous and relevant instruction across all classrooms, with a continued focus on building strong academic habits, fostering critical thinking, and creating meaningful connections to real-world learning.
We are also looking forward to celebrating our 3rd quarter academic and attendance award recipients, as well as recognizing House Gratos for earning the most house points this quarter—an incredible accomplishment that reflects their teamwork, leadership, and school spirit! Boom!
LAMPS Schedule
Attendance March Madness
This is the final week of our Bracket of Champions during our March Madness Attendance Challenge! We have Ms. Wilson (3rd Grade) facing off against Mr. Goode (2nd Grade), and Mrs. Baum (4th/5th Grade) competing against Mrs. Kouri (5th Grade). The classes with the strongest attendance this week will advance to the finals on Friday, March 27. In the championship round, the two remaining classes will go head-to-head, with tardies serving as the deciding factor in determining our overall winner. Let’s finish strong and continue showing up ready to learn each day!
Staff Congratulations
We would like to extend a special congratulations to the following teachers for excelling in our Explicit Teaching Challenge throughout the month of March! These educators demonstrated exceptional whole group engagement, high levels of student participation, clear and purposeful modeling, and consistent checks for understanding to ensure all students were actively learning.
1st Place – Mrs. Owens (1st Grade) & Mrs. Baum (4th/5th Grade)
2nd Place – Mrs. McDowney (1st Grade) & Mrs. Turner (5th Grade)
3rd Place – Mrs. Earl (4th Grade)
Bus - ID and Lanyard Required
Thank you, families, for supporting your child by completing an ID check before leaving the house each day. We are beginning to see an increase in referrals on the bus and in the cafeteria for students not having their required ID and lanyard. Please remember this is a Henrico County Public Schools procedure, and our elementary students rely on parent support to build this routine. Your consistency at home helps ensure a safe, smooth, and successful start to each school day. If you need a new student ID, please come into the office on Monday, March 23 for a replacement.
Sunday, March 22 – Quarter 4 Morning Club Registration - CLICK HERE
We are excited to once again offer a wide variety of extracurricular opportunities for our students. As a reminder, students must be at their club location by 7:25 AM. Students who miss two practices, receive 6 or more X’s, or receive one major discipline referral will be removed from the club and will not be eligible to perform at the final pep rally of the year. We are also seeking parent volunteers to assist with morning arrival in the car drop-off line—your support helps ensure a safe and smooth start to the day for all students.
Monday, March 23 - 27: Parent Appreciation Week
We are excited to celebrate Parent Appreciation Week as a way to recognize and thank you for the incredible support you provide to our school community each and every day. Your partnership plays a vital role in your child’s success, and we are truly grateful for all that you do behind the scenes. We hope this week brings a few small moments of joy as we celebrate you!
Monday: Students and staff wear red to show we love our parents
Tuesday: Raffle drawing for special treats
Wednesday: A “Life Saver” surprise sent home to all parents
Thursday: A special message from the administration team
Friday: Students bring home a handwritten note of appreciation
Monday, March 23 – House Advisory Meeting
Our student house leaders will meet in the library beginning at 7:20 a.m. If your child was selected for this leadership opportunity, regular attendance is expected.
This is an important leadership role focused on strengthening and improving our house system by giving students a voice in school culture, leadership, and school spirit. Throughout the year, students will collaborate on ideas and initiatives, and they will report on the changes and implementations developed by the group at the end of the year.
Tuesday, March 24 – Quarter 3 House Winner Celebration
House Gratos… bring on the GREEN! Congratulations on winning the 3rd marking period. We look forward to celebrating with the House of Givers from 7:20 - 7:45 AM. These students should report to their classrooms before coming to the party in the gym. Celebrating winning each quarters is essential to the development and buy in of our house system.
Tuesday, March 24 – Student vs. Staff Basketball Game
Join us from 6:00–7:30 PM at Hungary Creek Middle School for this exciting annual event! Staff have won 5 of the last 9 years—can our students even the score to 5–5?
Players will be announced Monday and have earned their spot by meeting academic and behavior expectations. All players and performers (Cheerleading, Dance Teams, Bucket Drumline, and Step Team) should wear their house shirts.
We encourage all Greenwood families to come out and support! Please remember, this is not a drop-off event—students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Wednesday, March 25 - Q3 Academic Award Ceremony
We look forward to celebrating our students who have earned All A Honor Roll (5 pts), A & B Honor Roll (3 pts), the B.U.G. Award (Bringing Up Grades - 3pts), and Perfect Attendance (3 pts). Students receiving an academic or attendance award will also earn house points in recognition of their achievements.
These classroom celebrations are important because they honor students’ hard work and dedication while reinforcing the value of academic growth, responsibility, and perseverance. Celebrating success together helps motivate students to continue striving for excellence.
Thank you for continuing to support and celebrate these accomplishments at home by following the RCA app. We have seen great success in student achievement when families recognize and celebrate house points outside of school—your partnership is essential.
Please note, this celebration is closed to parents; however, teachers will share photos in their Friday communication.
Friday, March 27 - College and Career Day, Touch a Truck, Senior Clap Out
Our school counselors have planned a special experience for students to explore a wide variety of careers. Career Day helps students begin thinking about their future while connecting classroom learning to real-world opportunities. Events like this inspire students to dream big and understand the many paths available to them—seeing the future provides hope and purpose.
During the day, we will pause from 9:45–10:15 a.m. for our rescheduled Senior Walk, welcoming high school graduates back to Greenwood for one final stroll through the halls. This special moment is open to alumni families to join their once-Gator—bring a camera, take pictures, and maybe even a few tissues!
House Achievement Reminders
We are a school with high academic and behavior expectations, and we believe in holding our staff, students, and families accountable when these expectations are not met. This commitment is essential to achieving our goal of becoming the most diverse Distinguished School of Academic Excellence in the state of Virginia, as it ensures every student is supported, challenged, and held to a consistent standard of success.
As we begin the 4th marking period, we want to share a reminder of our accountability measures, as all students will start fresh with their infraction totals. As we reflect on our 3rd quarter data, we are noticing a connection between families who do not completed the Home School Partnership accountability form over the weekend and students who have missed multiple House Achievement celebrations, reinforcing the importance of strong home-school collaboration.
Looking Ahead
