Greenwood Families

What separates Greenwood from all other schools is that we bring Day 1 of school energy and enthusiasm for the entire week 2! We are deeply committed to ensuring a safe learning environment by teaching routines and procedures with consistency, building strong relationships with every student, and holding them accountable for both academic excellence and positive behavior. Thank you for reading the information below carefully as we have many great updates!

Morning Clubs
CLICK HERE to sign up for our 1st quarter morning clubs. It’s very important that you use your child’s first and last name as well as their teacher’s name when signing up for a club.

Green Take Home Folder
We still have many students without a green take home folder. This is an essential school item. Please bring in $3 tomorrow to get your communication item.

Transportation Change Reminders
If your child’s transportation changes, you must notify both Mrs. Jae and Mrs. Christina in the main office at jtsjones@henrico.k12.va.us and cmmedico@henrico.k12.va.us. Please do not send transportation changes just to the teacher, as many teachers cannot check email until after school.  More information can be found our school website. Click HERE.

Student ID and Lanyard Reminder
Students must have their student ID and lanyard each day. IDs are used for breakfast, lunch, entering morning clubs, checking out books, and boarding the bus. If you need an ID replacement, you will receive a form that must be filled out before an ID is issued. There is a $5 fee for the 2nd replacement.

School Counseling Survey
To help your School Counselors better support your family, please take a moment to fill out our School Counseling Needs Assessment HERE. Your feedback will help us plan our lessons and program for the year and identify any resources you may need.

How Students Can Connect with the School Counselor
If your child would like to talk with a school counselor, there are several simple ways they can reach us:

  • They can ask a family member or teacher to contact us by email or phone.

  • They can fill out the digital request form on the “School Counseling” page in Schoology.

  • They can complete an “I Want to See the Counselor” form and place it in our mailbox, which is right outside our office.

Our office is easy to find—right across from the main office—and we are always here to support students whenever they need a safe space to talk.

Beginning of the Year Assessments
We’re excited to start our beginning of the year math and reading assessments over the next few weeks. These assessments help us understand where each student is starting and guide our instruction throughout the year.

  • iReady Math and Reading Diagnostic: Taken on computers or iPads, these assessments provide a baseline of students’ math and reading skills and track their growth over the year.

  • VALLSS (Virginia Language & Literacy Screening System): This screening tool assesses foundational literacy skills. It is required for all students in PreK through 2nd grade, and for select students in grades 3-5.

  • ORF (Oral Reading Fluency): This is a norm-referenced assessment that measures reading fluency (accuracy, speed, and expression). ORF is a strong predictor of reading comprehension. All students in grades 1 - 5 will take the ORF; for those already completing VALLSS, it is included as part of that assessment.

  • VKRP (Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program): Required for PreK and Kindergarten students, VKRP evaluates early math skills and social development.

We appreciate your support as we begin these important assessments. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Room Parents
We are still looking for some parents to assist in our classrooms this year as a room parent.
