Sunday Greetings
Believe it or not, we have just 8 school days remaining in the first marking period! As we head into two exciting weeks at Greenwood, our calendar is full of opportunities to celebrate our students, build connections, and strengthen the culture that makes our school so special. Thank you for continuing to partner with us, show up for our Gators, and help us finish the first quarter strong. Here are this week’s big three and a few important reminders!
This Week's Big 3
1️⃣ Unity Drive – We Need You! We have raised $15,150 toward our $35,000 goal. Only 15 days remain! This is our one big fundraiser that funds the magic at our school. Please Support our Unity Drive and Share with Family and Friends!
2️⃣ House Happenings Week - Every class this upcoming week will partner with a buddy class to complete a special activity centered on the culture of House Taji, leadership, and accountability.
3️⃣ The RCA Store opens Monday, October 19!
Candy Collection Continues
Keep sending in candy for our Trunk-or-Treat celebration on Friday, October 30! Every bag helps us create a fun and memorable experience for our Gators and families.
Bus Reminders
Riding the school bus is a privilege, and we expect all Gators to demonstrate our school values from the moment they get on the bus until they arrive safely at their destination. Following directions, keeping hands and feet to ourselves, and treating others with respect are all part of being a Gator. Please remind your child that not following the Code of Conduct may result in the loss of bus-riding privileges.

Field Trip Reminders
We have four field trips scheduled for this upcoming week! Please take a few moments to review your child’s teacher reminders for clothing, packed lunches, and any other important details. If you have been selected as a chaperone, please be sure to arrive in time for the required chaperone safety meeting. Remember, parents must complete a volunteer form to be eligible to chaperone.

The RCA Store opens Monday, October 19. Students can use their House Points to purchase special items for Taji Unity Day on October 28.

Wednesday, October 21 - Earthquake Drill
We will practice our earthquake safety procedures to help students and staff know what to do in the event of an earthquake. These drills help us stay prepared and ensure our Gators know how to respond safely.

Friday, October 23 - Character Trait Ceremony - Accountable @ 7:20 AM
We are excited to celebrate students who have demonstrated accountability and leadership at 7:20 AM in the gym. All Head of House and Spirit Captains should also report to the gym to celebrate these award winners.

Students who earn House Achievement will enjoy another special opportunity to celebrate with their housemates.

Friday, October 23 - RCA Store Closes
The RCA Store will close Friday as we get ready for Taji Unity Day! Remember, Gators, you don't have to spend all your House Points at once. Gratos Unity Day is coming up on November 24, giving students another opportunity to shop, celebrate, and show their House pride. Save those points for something special!

🔜 Coming Up

Monday, October 26 - Fall Picture Day
Get ready to smile, Gators! We look forward to capturing another special moment in your child’s Greenwood journey.

Tuesday, October 27 - End of Q1 Morning Clubs
A huge thank-you to all our morning club facilitators! These extracurricular opportunities help our students build a sense of belonging, discover and showcase their gifts and talents, develop new interests, strengthen friendships, and build confidence. We are grateful to the adults who give their time and energy to create these meaningful experiences for our Gators!

Tuesday, October 27 - House Advisory Meeting @ 2-3:30 PM
As shared in their applications, our House Advisory members will meet in the library from 2:00–3:30 PM on October 27, November 23, December 17, January 21, and March 25. These student leaders will help run our Spirit Store by organizing, packaging, and delivering items purchased with House Points before Unity Days. They will also brainstorm new store items and exciting reward experiences! Please remember to wear your House Advisory shirt.

Wednesday, October 28 - Leaders League: Taji Unity Day & House Breakfast, Q1 Club Performances, End of Q1, Student Half-Day, READtoRUN Recognition
We have a BIG day ahead! Get your purple ready as we celebrate Taji Unity Day, including our House Breakfast for all members of House Taji! Our first pep rally of the year will take place from 8:20–9:30 AM in the gym, and parents of our performers are welcome to attend. Our fifth graders will also kick off their READtoRUN journey by receiving their first book and some special swag! Dismissal for our student half-day will begin at 11:05 AM.

Thursday, October 29 - Mentor Munchies @ 7:20 - 7:50 AM
Our ESL teachers will host a special breakfast for our ESL students. These opportunities help students build meaningful relationships with trusted adults, strengthen their sense of belonging, and remind every Gator that they have people at Greenwood who care about them and want them to succeed.

Thursday, October 29 - Principal Advisory Meeting @ Lunch
Mr. Stein will meet with these selected student leaders during their lunch to hear their ideas about how we can make Greenwood even more engaging, welcoming, and effective for everyone. Students will help us identify the blind spots adults might miss and share honest feedback about their experiences. We believe our students should have a voice in shaping the school they attend every day!

Thursday, October 29 - PBIS Student Advisory @ 7:20 - 7:50 AM
The PBIS Student Advisory Council will meet with Mr. Stein and Mrs. Melton in the library. Students will review first-quarter data, discuss House Points and behavior expectations, and share ideas for making our House System even more engaging and effective. We want our students to help shape a culture where every Gator feels connected, valued, and motivated to make positive choices.
Thursday, October 29 - Safety Belt Ceremony @ 7:20 - 7:50 AM
Mr. Anderson will host our first-ever Safety Belt Ceremony to recognize the students who work hard to help keep our school safe each morning. One outstanding student will be named Safety of the Quarter, and our student safeties will earn two House Points for their contributions to the Greenwood community.
Friday, October 30 - Family Salsa @ 7:20 - 7:50 AM
Let's fill the gym with Gator families! Moms, dads, grandparents, and other adults from home are invited to join our dance coach, Eleanor Robertson, for a morning of music, movement, and fun. Doors open at 7:10 AM, so please allow extra time for parking as we anticipate more than 50 families joining us. We can't wait to dance with you!
Friday, October 30 - Book Character Extravaganza
Our Gators are invited to dress up as their favorite book characters! Please remember that masks and plastic weapons are not permitted. We can't wait to see our hallways filled with favorite characters and celebrate the books that inspire our imaginations!
Friday, October 30 - Book Fair Opens
A huge thank-you to our PTA for organizing our Book Fair! This is a wonderful opportunity to discover new books to enjoy at home and even donate a book to your child's classroom. We also need volunteers to help throughout the fair. No experience is necessary, and Greenwood alumni are welcome to lend a hand, too!

Permission slips have been sent home to our fourth- and fifth-grade families with information about the upcoming Family Life instruction.
Friday, October 30 - Fall Festival & Trunk or Treat @5:00 - 7:00 PM
One of our favorite Greenwood traditions is almost here! Students will have the opportunity to visit each participating staff member's car one time to collect candy. We'll also have a DJ near the playground and food trucks to help make it a fun evening for our entire school community. Thank you to everyone helping make this event possible.
Final Thought
Take a look at everything happening over the next two weeks! From student leadership and morning clubs to Family Salsa, the Book Fair, and Trunk-or-Treat, these experiences build the relationships, belonging, and culture that make Greenwood special. Our PTA helps make so much of this possible by funding Character Trait Ceremony yard signs, Safety Belt Awards, Trunk-or-Treat candy, our Family Salsa instructor, Mentor Munchies breakfast, and so much more. These opportunities depend on a successful Unity Drive! Our goal is $35,000, and every contribution helps us continue creating meaningful experiences for our Gators. If you haven't contributed yet, please consider supporting our Unity Drive and sharing it with family and friends. Thank you for helping us put the power of us over me and making Greenwood a place where our students can thrive!
