Greenwood is proud to share that Henrico County Public Schools officially announced last week that our school has earned the state of Virginia’s “Distinguished for Academic Excellence” recognition, the highest academic achievement rating among the four performance categories!
This accomplishment represents countless hours of work behind the scenes. It reflects the thoughtful lesson design, intentional instruction, ongoing assessment, and relentless commitment to student growth demonstrated by our staff every single day. We are equally grateful for the partnership of our families and community. Your trust in our school, your support of our teachers, and your encouragement of our students all play an important role in this journey. This recognition belongs to our entire Greenwood family, and we are proud of what we continue to accomplish together!
This Week's Big 3
1️⃣ Celebrating Academic Excellence:
Greenwood has earned Virginia’s “Distinguished for Academic Excellence” recognition!
2️⃣ Unity Drive – We Need You! We have raised $8,675 toward our $35,000 goal, but only 16% of our students are registered. Please Support our Unity Drive and Share with Family and Friends!
3️⃣ Get Ready for Taji Unity Day! The RCA Store opens Monday, October 19! Check your child's House Points in the RCA app and help your Gator get ready for our October 28 pep rally.
Unity Drive - We Need Your Support
As we enter Week 2 of our Unity Drive, we have raised $8,675, which is 24% of our $35,000 goal. Only 116 of our 740 students are registered, representing just 16% participation. We need our Greenwood family to come together and help us reach our goal! Every registration and contribution helps our PTA fund the programs, resources, celebrations, and experiences that make Greenwood special. Click here to support our Unity Drive! Every dollar raised goes directly toward creating an incredible experience for our students. Let's show the Power of Us in action!
Candy Collection Continues
Keep sending in candy for our Trunk-or-Treat celebration on Friday, October 30! Each House can earn five House Points for every 10 pounds of candy collected. Let's fill those collection bins, bring the energy, and see which House can make the biggest contribution. We can't wait to celebrate this Greenwood tradition with our Gator family!
Social and Emotional Learning – Every Gator Belongs
Thank you for making sure your child arrives at school on time and can participate in our morning meetings. These moments are an important part of building relationships, strengthening our sense of community, and reminding every Gator that they belong to something special. Morning meetings give students the opportunity to connect with classmates, build social and emotional skills, and start the day feeling welcomed and supported.
All In Tutoring
As a reminder, students identified as chronically absent or chronically tardy have been selected to participate in our All In morning tutoring program from 7:20–8:00 a.m. Regular attendance and arriving on time are essential to student learning, and absenteeism is also an important factor in our schoolwide accreditation measures. We need your partnership in making sure our Gators are at school and ready to learn each day. Every minute matters, and every day is an opportunity to grow!
Stay Connected to Your Child’s Learning
If you have questions about a grade or a missing assignment, please reach out to your child’s teacher this week. Do not wait until the marking period closes on October 28. If you still need access to PowerSchool, the RCA app, or ParentSquare, make this the week you get connected! Our Innovative Learning Coach, Mrs. Bishop, is available to help you get started at mfbishop@henrico.k12.va.us. Staying connected and communicating with your child’s teacher are important ways we can work together to support student growth!
House App Check
Tonight is a great time to open the RCA app and read the comments explaining why your child has earned House Points. The RCA Store opens Monday, October 19, and you will want to know how many points your child has earned! Students will be able to use their House Points to purchase fun items to wear at the October 28 pep rally, purchase VIP seating, participate in a pep rally game, or wave the House flag. Take a few minutes tonight to celebrate your child's accomplishments and help them plan how to use their points!
Principal Message - CLICK HERE
Take a few minutes to read our Principal’s Letter to learn what makes Greenwood so special, what we believe in, and where we’re headed together. The Power of Us starts with all of us, and we’re grateful to have you as part of our Greenwood family!
Please take a moment to read our Bullying Prevention flyer to learn how we can work together to recognize, prevent, and respond to bullying. By keeping the conversation open at home and school, we can help every Gator feel safe, supported, and respected.

Come out and support our Greenwood PTA at Chuck E. Cheese on Wednesday, October 14! Bring the family, have some fun, and enjoy time together while supporting our school. Greenwood will receive 20% of all sales during the event. It's a fun and easy way to support our Gators!
Friday, October 16 - Math Award Ceremony
We are excited to celebrate our students who have demonstrated a love for mathematics and outstanding effort, growth, and achievement! If your student is receiving an award, please plan to arrive together and be seated in the gym by 7:20 a.m. We need to begin our ceremonies on time so that we can start instruction promptly at 8:00 a.m. Thank you for helping us make this celebration a success!
Friday, October 16 - House Achievement Picnic
Students who earned House Achievement will enjoy a special picnic with their housemates. Please continue checking your child's House Points and celebrating their accomplishments at home. Fridays are an important opportunity to stay connected to your child's learning and celebrate the progress being made throughout the week. Thank you for taking the time to read the Friday communication sent by your child's teacher. Green take-home folders will also come home with graded papers from the week. Please take a few minutes to review these papers with your child, celebrate their successes, and discuss any areas where they may need additional support.
🔜 Coming Up |
Monday, October 19 - House Happenings Week
During House Happenings Week, every class will partner with a buddy class to complete a special activity centered on the culture of House Taji, leadership, and accountability. These opportunities for older and younger students to learn together reinforce the importance of our House system and the meaningful connections that shape our school culture. Our LAMPS teachers have also designed special lessons that highlight our House values, taglines, symbols, and traditions. We look forward to a week of learning, leadership, and connection across our Greenwood family!
Monday, October 19 - RCA Store Opens
The RCA Store opens Monday, October 19, and we encourage families to locate the store in the app or on a computer before it opens. Some items may go quickly! Students can use their House Points to purchase special items for Taji Unity Day on October 28. If you have questions about accessing the store or your child's points, please reach out to your child's teacher this week rather than waiting until next week.
Friday, October 23 - Character Trait Ceremony - Accountable
We are excited to celebrate students who have demonstrated accountability and leadership! These Gators have shown us what it means to take responsibility for their choices, follow through on commitments, and make a positive difference in our school community.
Friday, October 23 - House Achievement Picnic
Students who earn House Achievement will enjoy another special opportunity to celebrate with their housemates. Keep encouraging your Gators to live our House values and contribute positively to their House community!
Friday, October 23 - RCA Store Closes
Please remember that students do not need to spend all their House Points or coins in the Taji Unity Day Spirit Store. Our Gratos Unity Day is coming up on November 24, so students will have another opportunity to use their points and celebrate their House!
Final Thought
As I reflect on Greenwood earning the Distinguished for Academic Excellence recognition, I am reminded that our greatest accomplishments are built through the daily efforts of our students, staff, families, and community. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of a community that cares so deeply about children and continues to show up for one another. This week, my personal goal is to spend 20–30 minutes in every classroom. I want to be present in the learning, celebrate the incredible work happening across our building, and continue learning alongside our students and staff. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this family.
