Sunday Greetings

We had another great week at Greenwood! We loved welcoming many of our new families to our New Family Breakfast on Friday. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, build relationships, and help our newest Gators feel at home.  We also had so many special learning experiences happening throughout our classrooms this past week. Be sure to check your child’s Friday communication to see some of the great things happening in their classroom. Our morning meetings continue to be an important part of our day as we help our students grow socially and emotionally, build relationships, and learn how to be there for one another.

This Week's Big 3

1️⃣ Monday is a Student Holiday
Our students are off on Monday while our teachers spend the day learning and growing together through professional learning.

2️⃣ Friday, October 2 is packed with Greenwood celebrations!
We have our Reading Award Ceremony, Spilling the Tea, Custodian Appreciation Day, House Achievement Picnic, and our first Friday Bike Ride. There is a lot happening around Gator Nation!

3️⃣ Keep an eye on the calendar!
We have several exciting things coming up in October, including our Candy Collection, All In Tutoring, READtoRUN, Shine Your Light, and our 2nd Annual 5th Grade Senior Convocation.

Join the PTA
Join the PTA and make a difference in our school community! Becoming a PTA member is an easy way to support our students and staff, and membership does not require volunteering your time. Your dues help fund important resources and events, including school supplies, our Trunk or Treat community event, school dances, and other activities that enrich the student experience. PTA membership also helps keep you connected and informed about what's happening at our school. Together, we can make our school an even better place for all children!

Wear Your House, Build Our Community!
Our House System is all about connection, leadership, and belonging. By purchasing a House shirt for $12 or a Power of Us shirt for $15, you're helping your child feel connected to their House and our school community. House shirts are available for purchase every Friday and are a fun way for students and staff to demonstrate school spirit and celebrate being part of something bigger than themselves.

Interim Reports
This past Friday marked the midpoint of our first marking period. Thank you for checking PowerSchool to get an update on your child’s progress. Please don’t wait until the last week of October to check in on grades and assignments. A quick check now can help us identify areas where your child may need additional support while there is still plenty of time to make progress.

RCA App/Program
With no school on Monday, we highly recommend that families take a few minutes to visit https://app.rcahousepoints.com, select “Student,” and enter your child’s access code (the code is not case sensitive). Once logged in, you can view your child’s House Points and any infractions they may have received. This will be important to know how to navigate, as students will be able to use their House Coins beginning in mid-October to purchase spirit wear items for our Taji Unity Day pep rally!

📅 This Week at Greenwood

Bus Evacuation Drills
Students who ride the bus will participate in a bus evacuation drill when they arrive at school.

Friday, October 2: Custodian Appreciation Day
Our custodians do so much behind the scenes to keep Greenwood clean, safe, and ready for our students each day. Help us show them some love on October 2!

Friday, October 2: House Achievement Picnic
Students in Grades 1–5 who meet their academic and behavior goals will have the opportunity to eat lunch with their classmates in the Gator Gardens. We love finding new ways to celebrate student achievement—and this is just one more example of the Power of Us in action!

Friday, October 2: Bike Ride

We have several staff members planning to ride their bikes after school, and you are welcome to join the fun! You can leave from Greenwood with our staff at 2:45 PM or meet us in the River Mill community parking lot by the pool at 3:00 PM. From there, we’ll ride around the community for about 20 minutes before finishing back at the pool and heading back to Greenwood.  We’ll have music playing, enjoy some time together, and kick off the weekend with a little fun and exercise! Our goal is to have several Friday bike rides throughout the year in different locations throughout our amazing community.  We know 3:00 PM may not work for everyone, and that’s completely okay! This was a fun idea brought to our team by our staff, and we wanted to support their goal and vision. We’re going to give it a try and see how it goes! Come ride with us if you can!

🔜 Coming Up

Monday, October 5 — Candy Collection Begins
We are excited to begin collecting candy for our big Trunk-or-Treat celebration on Friday, October 30! Each House can earn 5 House Points for every 10 pounds of candy collected. All candy will be distributed to our students during this special community event.

Monday, October 5 — All In Tutoring Begins
Our All In morning tutoring program begins this week for students identified as chronically absent or chronically tardy. Students will receive additional academic support from 7:20–8:00 AM to help them stay on track and continue making progress. Families should have received a letter in their child’s green take-home folder with additional details.

Friday, October 9 — READtoRUN Book 1 Kickoff
Our 5th graders are beginning their READtoRUN journey! Students will work toward reading three books and earning a brand-new pair of shoes. We are incredibly grateful for this amazing partnership and for READtoRUN’s commitment to helping students build a love of reading while promoting fitness.

Friday, October 9 — Shine Your Light Ceremony
We look forward to celebrating students who continue to do the right thing when nobody is watching! Award winners will meet in the gym at 7:20 AM for a special ceremony before parading through the hallways with their families, candles in hand, as we celebrate their character and the light they bring to Greenwood.

Friday, October 9 — 5th Grade Senior Convocation
We are excited for our 2nd Annual 5th Grade Senior Convocation! Our 5th graders will dress in robes, perform two songs, and hear from keynote speakers about the Power of Us and the legacy they are creating at Greenwood. Families are welcome to attend and may begin parking at 8:05 AM; the ceremony will begin at 8:20 AM.

Friday, October 9 — House Achievement Picnic
We look forward to celebrating our Gators who have reached their academic and behavior goals with a special House Achievement picnic! This is another opportunity to celebrate students who are consistently demonstrating our Greenwood expectations and living out the Power of Us.

Final Thought
As we head into another week, remember that the Power of Us is not just something we talk about—it is something we choose every day. It shows up when we encourage a friend, celebrate someone else’s success, help someone who is struggling, or simply choose to do the right thing when nobody is watching. There is no shortage of incredible things happening at Greenwood, but the most important thing we are building is a community where every Gator knows they belong.
