5th Grade Seniors

We are so excited to welcome back our 5th Grade Seniors! This is the special group that began kindergarten in the fall of 2020—learning six feet apart, learning to read through a mask, and making friends virtually during one of the most unusual school years in history. They have grown, adapted, persevered, and continued to show us what it means to be a Gator through every challenge along the way. Now, it’s their time to lead, make memories, and leave their Greenwood legacy. This group is so special to me personally, and it is incredibly important that we create the most incredible experience possible for our Gators during their final year at Greenwood.

5th Grade Leadership Camp

We are excited to welcome our 5th graders to campus this Friday, August 14, from 9:00–11:00 AM for our 5th Grade Leadership Camp! Students may be dropped off at 8:50 AM at the gym entrance. Parents may park and return to the gym at 11:00 AM to pick up their child. Please note that parents will not be permitted inside the building during Leadership Camp.

During the camp, students will participate in several team-building activities, record a few videos that will be featured on our morning announcements during the first two weeks of school, and learn more about what it means to be a leader at Greenwood. We will talk about the power of their example, the responsibility that comes with being a 5th Grade Senior, and the many ways they can make a positive impact on our school. Most importantly, we will challenge them to think about the legacy they want to leave behind.

Following Leadership Camp, our Head of House and Spirit Captains will meet in the library from 11:00 AM–12:30 PM. We are asking one parent/guardian of each Head of House and Spirit Captain to attend a brief parent meeting at 12:15 PM to review expectations and important information for the year. We want to make sure our student leaders and their families feel prepared and excited for the important role they will play in making this year special for our entire school community.

Open House & Your House Homeroom

We hope you enjoyed receiving your postcards in the mail with your teacher assignments! When you arrive for Open House on Thursday, August 20, between 9:00 AM–12:00 PM, your first stop will be your House Homeroom:

  • Gratos — Room 222 with Mrs. Earl

  • Taji — Room 219 with Ms. Kouri

  • Tatonka — Room 218 with Mrs. Baum

  • Sol — Room 220 with Mrs. Koenig

  • Kula — Room 217 with Mr. Hunt

Your House Homeroom is where you will drop off your school supplies and begin your day each morning from 7:20–8:00 AM. This is also the class where you will attend LAMPS (Library, Art, Music, PE, and School Counseling) and eat lunch.

One of the most exciting parts of our House system is that your homeroom brings you together with your Housemates every day. This gives you more opportunities to build friendships, strengthen connections, and create a sense of belonging with students you may not have otherwise known. Throughout the year, your House will work together, celebrate together, compete together, and support one another. Your House is your Greenwood family, and your 5th Grade Senior year is the perfect opportunity to make those connections stronger than ever.

Your Instructional Classes

Our 5th graders will have two instructional blocks each day: 8:00–10:00 AM and 12:00–2:05 PM. These are the two teachers listed on your postcard. On Tuesday, August 18 at 12:00 PM, parents will receive information about which instructional class your student will attend first.

We encourage all students and families to visit both of your instructional teachers during Open House on Thursday, August 20. This is a great opportunity to meet your teachers, see your classrooms, ask questions, and begin getting comfortable with the exciting year ahead.

Let's Make This One to Remember!

Gators, this is your year. You have come so far since that first day of kindergarten in 2020, and now you have the opportunity to become the leaders, role models, and difference-makers of Greenwood Elementary. We want your final year to be filled with laughter, friendship, school spirit, unforgettable experiences, and moments that you will carry with you long after you leave our halls. Your legacy is waiting to be written, and we cannot wait to see what you do with it.

Lead with heart. Lead with purpose. The Power of Us starts with YOU!
