Our Staff Has Been Working All Summer
While students have been enjoying summer break, our teachers, custodians, office staff, cafeteria team, assistants, counselors, and administrators have been hard at work preparing for an incredible school year. Our team has been organizing classrooms, attending professional learning, analyzing student data, planning engaging lessons, and creating a learning environment where every Gator can thrive.
Many of our teachers are returning to the building this week to prepare their classrooms, collaborate with their teams, establish high expectations for Day 1, and plan meaningful learning experiences that will help students feel welcomed, supported, and challenged from the moment they walk through our doors. The energy and commitment throughout Greenwood are truly inspiring, and we are so grateful for the passion, dedication, and care our staff brings to our students every day.
Thursday, August 6 — Spilling the Tea with Mr. Stein
Join us on Thursday, August 6, at 9:00 AM for our next virtual "Spilling the Tea" conversation. We'll share important information to help families prepare for the new school year, including transportation, the first day of school, dress code, student ID cards, digital wellness, and our new Principal Advisory. We'll also discuss what we learned from the 2025 Henrico County Parent Survey and how your feedback continues to shape the future of Greenwood. We hope you'll join us, ask questions, and partner with us as we work together to ensure every Gator is known, valued, supported, and challenged to succeed.

Important - Wednesday, August 19 - Virtual PTA Meeting: PK, Kindergarten & New Family Orientation @ 6 PM
We're excited to welcome our newest Gator families during our Virtual PTA Meeting on Wednesday, August 19, at 6:00 PM.
This year, we're trying something new by hosting this meeting virtually. We hope this format allows families to focus on the important information without the distractions of a large in-person gathering. Families will be able to hear every detail, ask questions, and participate from the comfort of home. We know this is a change, but we believe it will provide an even better experience for our newest families.

Save the Date — Open House - Thursday, August 20
We can't wait to welcome everyone back for Open House on Thursday, August 20, from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM. Families will have the opportunity to meet teachers, visit classrooms, drop off school supplies, explore the building, and help students feel comfortable and excited for the first day of school.
If you are unable to attend Open House, please note that families will not be able to walk students to their classrooms on the first day of school. To ensure a safe and smooth arrival, we will have staff members, student leaders, and volunteers stationed throughout the building to greet students, help them find their classrooms, and assist with carrying school supplies. Please also remember that teachers and the main office are unable to accept or store school supplies before Open House on August 20, so any supplies not dropped off during Open House should be brought with your child on the first day of school. We appreciate your understanding and partnership as we work together to create a safe, organized, and positive start to the school year for every Gator.
Transportation
Bus routes will be available no later than Open House on August 20. If transportation information becomes available earlier, we will notify families immediately through ParentSquare.
The Big 3 - Apps to Have On Your Phone
To help every family stay connected throughout the school year, we are asking all Greenwood families to have the following three apps downloaded on at least one phone before Open House: PowerSchool, ParentSquare, and RCA.
When you arrive for Open House, all families will begin in the gym before visiting classrooms. Our staff and technology support team will be available to help anyone who needs assistance downloading the apps, logging in, or setting up accounts. This process will help ensure every family is ready to receive school communication, monitor grades and attendance, track student behavior, and stay connected from the very first day of school.
We encourage you to download and set up the apps before August 20 to make your Open House experience as quick and seamless as possible. If you need assistance before Open House, please call our office at 804-261-2970, and we'll be happy to help.
LAMPS (Library, Art, Music, PE, School Counseling)
Beginning this school year, Greenwood will no longer operate on a rotating Day 1-Day 5 schedule. Instead, students will attend Library, Art, Music, PE, and School Counseling on a consistent weekly schedule. This change was made based on feedback from our teachers and families and allows us to better support our growing enrollment while creating greater consistency for students and staff.
New Student & Kindergarten Registration
Please click the link above to review our registration information and staggered start schedule so you know exactly when your child begins school. If you have any questions, please call our office this week at 804-261-2970 or join us for Spilling the Tea with Mr. Stein on Thursday, August 6, where we'll review beginning-of-the-year procedures and answer your questions. We want every family to feel confident, informed, and excited as we prepare to welcome our newest Gators to Greenwood!
Helping Every Gator Feel Ready
Starting a new school year brings lots of excitement, but it can also bring a few butterflies—and that's completely normal! If your child is feeling nervous about the first day of school, please know that our teachers, counselors, administrators, student leaders, and staff will be ready to welcome every child with smiles, encouragement, and plenty of support. Our goal is for every student to feel safe, connected, and excited from the moment they walk through our doors.
If you would like to connect with one of our school counselors before the first day of school, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Johnson at amjohnson7@henrico.k12.va.us or Mrs. Melton at kamelton@henrico.k12.va.us. They are happy to answer questions, provide reassurance, and help make the transition to Greenwood a positive experience for your child and family.
Get Involved at Greenwood
One of the greatest strengths of Greenwood is the incredible partnership we have with our families. There will be many opportunities to volunteer throughout the school year, whether you can help for one hour, assist with morning arrival or dismissal, support classroom activities, chaperone field trips, or volunteer at special events. Every act of service makes a difference and helps create an even stronger school community for our students. Be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities during Open House and throughout the school year—we would love to have you involved. Together, we truly are stronger, because of The Power of Us!
Why We Do It
Everything we ask families to do has one goal: creating a safe, organized, connected, and joyful learning environment where every child can thrive.
Final Thought
We are incredibly grateful for your partnership and support. The countdown is officially on, and we cannot wait to welcome everyone back to Greenwood. Here's to another amazing year of learning, growing, and making memories together. Let's make this our best year yet...Go Gators!
