5th Grade Seniors
This is such a special class, and it’s hard to believe they will be heading off to middle school so soon. We are incredibly grateful for every moment we’ve had with this group and for the joy, leadership, and energy they’ve brought to Greenwood. As we head into the final month of school, we wanted to share some important dates and reminders to help you plan for these memorable final experiences.
Lunch - 10:40 AM
Parents are always welcome to join their Gator for lunch. If you’re hoping to sneak in one last special lunch before middle school, we highly encourage it! We have a designated parent seating area in the hallway, or you’re welcome to enjoy time together in our Gator Garden.
Essay to Future Self
Our 5th graders will be writing a letter to their future selves, reflecting on their time at Greenwood and sharing their hopes and dreams. One essay will be selected to be read at our graduation ceremony on May 28 at 6 PM, representing their house. All student essays will be displayed in a framed collection in our hallway until their high school senior clap out—creating a meaningful, lasting connection to their Greenwood journey.
Baby Picture Request
Our 5th grade teachers are requesting 1–2 pictures of each student from when they were younger for a special “Last Week Surprise.” Pre-K or baby photos are perfect! Please send them through ParentSquare to your child’s Block 1 or Block 2 teacher. This is always a fun and meaningful tradition that brings lots of smiles and laughter as students try to guess “who’s who” and reflect on how much they’ve grown throughout their time at Greenwood.
Middle School Signing Day – Tuesday, May 5
We are looking forward to celebrating students and their families at a special luncheon at 10:40 AM in the library for those attending Moody Middle School IB, Wilder Middle School GYSA, and Quioccasin Middle School Innovation Center. This new tradition is an opportunity to honor students for their hard work and commitment as they take an exciting next step in their academic journey.
Field Day – Friday, May 11 - CLICK HERE
This is it—the final Field Day for our Gators! The deadline to sign up is this Friday.
Tie-Dye Day - Friday, May 15 - (9 - 10:00 am)
A 5th grade tradition: Students will tie-dye a shirt to wear for the 5th Grade Party. All students should bring a white shirt to be tie-dyed by Monday, May 18. We would like 2 parent volunteers for each class to help out from 8-9:30. Please let your child’s first block teacher know if you can help with this craft. Teachers will send out needed supplies in the Friday Communication.
SOL Game Day - Tuesday, May 26
We are excited to celebrate our students’ hard work and perseverance during SOL testing with a fun-filled Game Day! Students will participate in a variety of activities and friendly competitions designed to recognize their effort and success throughout testing. We are so appreciative of your continued support during the SOL season and all you do to help our students shine.
5th Grade Party – Wednesday, May 27 (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM) - CLICK HERE
We’re excited to celebrate our 5th graders with a special end-of-year party! Students should wear their tye die shirts and will rotate through stations with their housemates. Activities include yearbook signing, a 5th grade mural, bounce houses, a maze, game trucks and video game panel, Kona Ice, photo booths, snacks, treats, and more. $10 tickets can be purchased through the PTA website using the link above.
5th Grade Graduation – Thursday, May 28 (6:00 PM)
This is a special evening celebration held at Greenwood. Students should arrive at 5:45 PM and report directly to their classrooms. Caps and gowns will be provided for all students and will be returned to their classroom directly following the ceremony. Students will be able to keep their tassels as a gift from Greenwood. Students are encouraged to dress nicely, similar to convocation, and we ask that they do not wear house shirts for this formal event. Seating will be first come, first served.
5th Grade Senior Clap Out – Friday, May 29 (8:00–8:10 AM)
Parents are invited to walk the hallway with their child one last time before our final pep rally. Families should park in the back of the school between 7:45–7:55 AM and meet their Gator in the Gator Gardens. Following the walk, families are welcome to join us in the gym for one of the most meaningful moments of the year as we honor our 5th grade seniors at the end of each performance. It is truly a magical way to celebrate this incredible class. This pep rally will also feature the final performances from all of our morning clubs from 8:30–10:00 AM.
We are looking forward to celebrating this amazing group of students and making their final weeks at Greenwood unforgettable.
