Greenwood Families,
Only two weeks remain in the 3rd marking period, and we want to finish strong academically. Thank you for continuing to partner with us by closely monitoring your child’s grades in PowerSchool. Families can also help students finish the quarter strong by checking your child’s green take-home folder each night, reviewing homework together each week, setting small incentives for effort and improvement, celebrating success on the RCA app when your child earns house points, creating a quiet space for reading and studying at home, and encouraging your child to ask questions and advocate for their learning. When we work together to support our students, we help them grow with confidence, responsibility, and pride in their learning. Thank you for continuing to lead with us and helping your child shine each day.
LAMPS Schedule
Attendance March Madness
We have officially advanced from 32 classrooms to the Sweet 16! Be sure to keep an eye on which classrooms have the best overall attendance as the competition continues. Some highlights from Week 1: 3rd grade had the strongest overall attendance, and Mrs. Green’s class had the highest attendance out of all 32 classrooms. We even had two classrooms tied, so we used tardies as the tiebreaker to determine who would move on. This challenge is a fun way to reinforce an important message—every day of learning matters. When students are present and on time, they are better able to engage in rigorous and meaningful learning experiences with their teachers and classmates.
PRIMETIME RVA for 5th Graders
This week we will announce the top 48 students who will advance to the PRIMETIME RVA Championship in April. Permission slips will be sent home with these students and must be returned this week. If a permission slip is not returned, we will move to an alternate student. PRIMETIME RVA focuses on building durable skills such as teamwork, communication, problem solving, and perseverance. These skills are essential for success not only in school, but in life, and we are proud of the way our students are growing as confident leaders and thinkers.
Spilling the Tea with Mr. Stein
Notes and highlights from this week’s staff conversation will be shared with our team. Huge thanks to all the families that continue to join our conversations!
Car Drop-Off Reminder
For the safety and efficiency of our morning arrival, please remain in your car at all times during car drop-off. If you need to exit your vehicle for any reason, please pull into a designated parking spot before getting out. Thank you for helping us keep arrival safe and smooth for everyone.
Bus Rider Expectations
We have recently seen an increase in discipline concerns on the school bus. Please remember that students are expected to follow the HCPS Code of Conduct at all times while riding the bus. Riding the bus is a privilege, and students must demonstrate responsibility and respect.
Students should:
Remain seated at all times while the bus is moving
Use their Gator Values by showing respect to the driver and other students
Keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves
Use appropriate voices and language
If a student loses the privilege of riding the bus and does not attend school, those absences will not be excused. Thank you for reinforcing these expectations with your child so we can ensure a safe ride for everyone.
Lunch with Parents
Parents are always welcome to join their child for lunch. During lunch visits, parents should sit with their child in the hallway outside the cafeteria or, if the weather is nice, in our Gator Gardens outdoor area. As a reminder, students may only eat lunch with their parent during these visits and may not bring friends to join them. Thank you for helping us maintain a consistent and supervised lunch environment.
Preschool Applications Are Open
Applications for preschool are now open. Families can access the application on the HCPS website: www.henricoschools.us/page/preschool
