Greenwood Families,
Thank you for reading my Sunday messages carefully. These updates are one of the most important ways we keep families informed about events, celebrations, and important school reminders. Staying informed helps ensure your child does not miss out on opportunities and allows our school community to run smoothly.
LAMPS Schedule
Attendance March Madness
This week we launch our Bracket of Champions! Which class will advance to the next round by having the best attendance? Our hope is to promote arriving on time and coming to school each day as we work toward becoming the #1 school in the state for attendance.
Please know that we recognize children get sick and if your child is sick, please keep them home. During this challenge we will also continue teaching students how to stay healthy by washing hands regularly, getting plenty of rest, eating nutritious foods, staying hydrated, and covering coughs and sneezes.
PTA Spirit Store
Huge thanks to the PTA for providing our students the opportunity to purchase items each Friday from our Spirit Store. Opportunities like this help build school pride and strengthen our sense of belonging as students proudly represent Greenwood.
Monday, March 2 – Math 24 Greenwood Tournament
We look forward to hosting our Math 24 Tournament with our 3rd–5th graders from 8–9 AM on Monday. The top players will advance to the countywide competition later in the month. Events like this help students build confidence with math, strengthen problem-solving skills, and show that learning can be both challenging and fun.
Monday, March 2 – Social Worker Appreciation Day
We look forward to celebrating our outstanding school social worker, Amanda Guerdat, and the incredible impact she has on our students and staff. School social workers play a vital role in supporting students’ emotional well-being, connecting families with resources, and helping create a caring and supportive school environment.
Monday, March 2 – Kula Spirit Store Opens
Students may begin using their House coins to purchase items from the Kula Spirit Store starting March 2. If you need support with how to access the RCA store, please contact your child’s teacher ASAP. We do anticipate many items in the store going quickly.
Wednesday, March 4 – 5th Grade Science & Innovation Fair
We can’t wait to view our 5th graders’ projects and celebrate all their hard work. Events like this allow students to think creatively, apply problem-solving skills, and explore real-world ideas that prepare them for future careers in science, technology, and innovation.
Thursday, March 5 – PRIMETIME RVA for 5th Graders
Virginia’s one and only durable skills competition is back and the top 48 Greenwood 5th graders will advance to the championship round in April! Durable skills such as communication, teamwork, creativity, and problem solving are critical for success in both school and future careers. Providing students opportunities to practice these skills helps prepare them to lead and collaborate in an ever-changing world.
Friday, March 6 – Reading Award Ceremony
We can’t wait to celebrate students who have demonstrated a true love for reading. If your child won this award, please be in the gym no later than 7:20 AM.

Tuesday, March 10 – Safety Drills
Our school will hold both a fire drill and tornado drill. Practicing these drills ensures students and staff know exactly what to do during an emergency and helps us maintain a safe learning environment for everyone.
Thursday, March 12 – Spring Photos and Class Photos
Get your outfits ready for our school photos!
Thursday, March 12 – Kindergarten Performance @ 6 PM
We look forward to seeing our KinderGators perform at Dinner on the Green. This is a great opportunity to listen to our students sing while enjoying time together as a school community. We’ll have tables ready for families to decorate and enjoy dinner together. You can bring food from anywhere and bring a green tablecloth—our goal is to fill the gym with Greenwood green!
Friday, March 13 – Character Trait Award Ceremony
This is another ceremony where we recognize students who have gone above and beyond demonstrating one of our Gator Values with a special morning and parent parade from 7:20–7:58 AM. We host five Character Trait ceremonies throughout the year because celebrating positive character helps reinforce the behaviors and values that make Greenwood such a special place to learn and grow.
Game Day Incentive & SOL Preparation
As our 3rd–5th graders begin preparing for the SOLs in April, we are excited to offer a second Field Day as an incentive for their hard work and focus. Each week, students will receive a review packet that is due on Friday to reinforce essential skills in Reading, Math, and Science. Our goal is to promote consistent practice at home, and with your partnership, we can achieve a 100% pass rate. Our students are building the skills and confidence needed for SOL success. Over the next month, you will see targeted review packets, goal-setting conversations, and small group support to ensure every child feels prepared, supported, and ready to shine.
House Achievement
We look forward to celebrating students each Friday for meeting their academic and behavior goals. Thank you for supporting your child if they receive one X so they do not receive another during the week. Please keep in mind that if a 3rd–5th grade student does not complete their SOL Review packet, they will also miss House Achievement.
Debra Smith Scholarship - $1000
Please help us share the exciting news of our PTA offering a $1000 scholarship for a Greenwood alumni!
Arrival Support
We are looking for support in the morning from 7:20–7:40 AM with opening car doors. Having additional help ensures students enter the building safely and helps keep our morning arrival process moving efficiently for all families.

3rd Marking Period Update
We are entering the final weeks of the 3rd marking period. Please check grades, missing assignments, and teacher communication in the next two weeks. This is an important time to help students finish strong before we begin SOL preparation.
Friday Communication Reminders
Each week, families can expect updates from their child’s teacher outlining where students are academically, upcoming events, and specific ways to support learning at home in the Friday Communication. Teachers will continue to share celebrations, student achievements, and important reminders as we prepare for SOL season and the final stretch of the school year. We are hopeful that 100% of our students will meet their stretch growth goals in iReady Reading and Math. Our goal is to ensure every child finishes strong—academically, socially, and emotionally—while families feel informed, confident, and connected every step of the way.
Candy Request
Our front office is collecting candy or mints to place near the teacher sign-in book each day. Thank you in advance for helping us provide a small boost of appreciation for our staff.
