Greenwood Families,

No more snow, please! We are eager to return to consistent, uninterrupted time with our students. Even with recent weather disruptions, our teachers continue designing lessons filled with rigor and relevance that challenge students to think critically and apply their learning in meaningful ways. We remain committed to maintaining high expectations for both academics and behavior so every child continues to grow, lead, and shine each day.

Academic Snapshot
Even with weather interruptions, instruction has remained strong and aligned to grade-level expectations. Teachers have adjusted pacing thoughtfully to ensure essential standards are taught with depth and clarity. Students continue engaging in small group instruction, data-driven interventions, and enrichment opportunities designed to meet their individual needs. If you have specific questions about your child, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher.

Attendance March Madness
We are excited to share that the March Madness brackets have been drawn to determine which class has the best attendance! Each Friday, we will announce which class advances based on the highest weekly attendance. The winning class will get to fully “tattoo” an administrator of their choice with rub-on tattoos at the end of the tournament. Our goal is to build strong attendance habits and reinforce the importance of being present and on time each day. Every day in school matters, and consistent attendance leads to stronger academic growth and deeper connections within our school community.

Candy Request
Our front office is collecting candy or mints to place near the teacher sign-in book each day. These small treats are greatly appreciated by our staff and help brighten their day. Thank you for your support!

Soccer Goal Repair Request
We are looking for a parent volunteer who can help secure our soccer nets on the playground. If you have experience in this area, please call us at 804-261-2970 or stop by the playground after 6:00 PM during the week or over the weekend. We truly appreciate the help.

Arrival Reminder
If you are dropping off your student in the car rider line, you must remain in your vehicle. Students should be ready to exit quickly with their belongings. Cars should not park illegally in our lot to avoid the drop-off line. We unload over 200 cars between 7:10–7:40 AM, which is incredible! If you would like to avoid the line, please consider having your child ride the school bus.

Bus Evacuations - Safety Drills
Throughout the week of February 23–27, our bus riders will complete a series of required safety bus drills to ensure they are prepared and informed in the event of an emergency.

Thursday, February 26 - HCPS All In Event
We are excited to see our Gators showcase their gifts and talents at the Henrico Sports & Events Center from 5:00–7:30 PM. Students will participate in Keva, Esports, Chess, First Lego League, and Rubik’s Tournaments. We can’t wait to cheer them on!

Friday, February 27 – Math Award Ceremony
We look forward to celebrating students who have demonstrated growth, perseverance, and a love for math.

Friday, February 27 - Futsal Game
Our 4th & 5th grade select team is scrimmaging at 6 PM. This club rewards academics & behavior, builds teamwork, and grows skills on the court. Big games & tournaments are coming!

Monday, March 2- Social Worker Appreciation
We look forward to celebrating our outstanding school social worker, Amanda Guerdat, and the incredible impact she has on our students and staff.

Monday, March 2 - Kula Spirit Store Opens
Students may begin using their House coins to purchase items from the Kula Spirit Store starting March 2. The store will close on March 16. Our House Advisory team will stay after school on March 18 to pack all purchased items and deliver them directly to classrooms.

Wednesday, March 4 – 5th Grade Science & Innovation Fair
Please direct all questions regarding the science fair to your child’s 5th grade teacher. All grade levels will have the opportunity to view the projects, allowing our younger students to see what high-level thinking and innovation look like. Teachers will vote to determine the top projects that demonstrate creativity, research, and strong presentation skills. This project helps our 5th graders strengthen durable skills such as problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking—skills that will serve them well in middle school and beyond.

Thursday, March 5 – PRIMETIME RVA for 5th Graders
Virginia’s one and only durable skills competition is back! Our top 5th graders will advance to the big competition in April. We strongly believe in teaching and reinforcing essential soft skills like teamwork, public speaking, adaptability, and leadership. These experiences prepare our students not only for academic success, but for real-world challenges where character and collaboration truly matter.

Friday, March 6 - Reading Award Ceremony
We can’t wait to celebrate students who have demonstrated a true love for reading. Recognizing these students reinforces the importance of literacy and encourages a lifelong passion for learning. When we celebrate readers, we send a powerful message that dedication, curiosity, and growth matter in our school community.

Friday, March 6 - Spilling the Tea with Mr. Stein @ 9 AM
Our principal can’t wait to meet with everyone this month and answer any questions that are submitted ahead of time. Open dialogue builds trust and strengthens the partnership between home and school. Providing a space for questions and conversation ensures that every voice is heard and that we continue growing together as one Greenwood family.
