Action!

We are excited to officially begin working on the School of Pop script with our actors during 3rd quarter morning club. During 2nd quarter, students focused on building confidence, projecting their voices, developing stage presence, learning movement, and working as a supportive ensemble. Now, it’s time to shift our focus to learning lines, developing characters, and bringing the story to life on stage.

Actors - CLICK HERE
If your child would like to be an actor in the play, please sign up as soon as possible. Students did not need to participate in the earlier acting club to be part of the school play this year. This is the same Google Form shared last Sunday.

Our goal is to meet students at their comfort level by offering roles with a range of line counts and stage time. We are fortunate to have an incredible coaching team supporting our actors, including Ms. Kouri, Mr. Moore, Ms. Eberhard, and Mr. Stein. Together, we will ensure students feel supported, challenged, and successful throughout the process.

Important: Students may not participate as both an actor and a chorus member, as both rehearse on Wednesdays.

At our first combined morning club, students will participate in a full script read-through. Each actor will then select their top four preferred roles. While we cannot guarantee role assignments, this process gives every student a voice and helps us make thoughtful, balanced casting decisions.

  • Role preferences due: Monday, February 9 by 2:00 PM (turned into the main office)

  • Roles announced: Wednesday, February 11 at morning club

Chorus - CLICK HERE
If your child would prefer to participate in the chorus and sing several songs in the play, please sign up as soon as possible. Chorus will be coached by Ms. Crosby and Mrs. McDowney, and students are already having a great deal of fun learning the music. We are hoping to add 5–10 additional students to create a fuller sound and an even more exciting performance experience.

Reminder: Students may not be both actors and chorus members due to the shared rehearsal day (Wednesday).

Backstage Club
At this time, we are not offering a backstage club. Backstage roles will be introduced during 4th quarter, as our performance is not scheduled until May 21 at Holman Middle School and May 22 at Greenwood Elementary School.

Important Reminder
Consistent attendance at Wednesday morning rehearsals is essential. Actors are expected to practice lines outside of school. Students may be removed from the club if they:

  • Miss two morning rehearsals

  • Receive six or more X’s in a quarter

  • Receive one major discipline referral

  • Receive one X during an after school performance

  • Picked up late from an after school performance

Being an actor is a leadership role and a team commitment. Each student’s preparation and reliability directly impact the success of the entire cast.

FAQs – Greenwood Elementary School Play

Will there be after-school or dress rehearsals?
Yes. We will hold three after-school rehearsals at Greenwood from 2:00–3:30 PM on:

  • April 14

  • April 28

  • May 12

There will also be two dress rehearsals at Holman Middle School:

  • Wednesday, May 20 | 4:00–6:00 PM

  • Thursday, May 21 | 4:00–5:30 PM

If your child cannot attend any after-school rehearsals, please let us know so we can take this into consideration when assigning roles and lines. Transportation will not be provided. This club is a special opportunity and a free theater experience made possible through strong commitment from students and families.

When is the performance?
We will have two performances:

  • Thursday, May 21 at 6:00 PM – Holman Middle School (family performance)

  • Friday, May 22 at 9:00 AM – Greenwood (school-wide performance)

Which grades can participate?

  • Acting and chorus: 1st–5th grade

  • Backstage roles (4th quarter): 3rd–5th grade

How much at-home practice is expected?
Practice expectations vary by role. Students with larger roles will need more practice at home, while students with fewer lines will require minimal practice. Students may lose lines if they are not memorized by March 18, 2026.

Will families need to purchase anything?
We do not have a school budget for costumes or props. Families may be asked to help provide specific items, though most materials will be school-provided.

We are building something truly special with School of Pop. This experience is about more than a performance—it’s about confidence, commitment, teamwork, and giving students a powerful opportunity to shine. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make this an unforgettable experience for our students.
