We hope everyone is enjoying the extended weekend! Please take a moment to look through your child’s green take-home folder to review any papers that may have been sent home. We also encourage you to help your child build a routine that keeps supplies and backpacks organized.
To set your child up for a successful school year, check for homework daily, have your child show you Schoology if they are using a device, review the house points given the first two weeks of school, and take time to read a book together. You may also want to look at the master calendar of events and choose 1–2 events to attend as a family.
We can’t wait to welcome all our Gators back on time this Tuesday, September 2!

Response to Intervention
Response to Intervention (RTI) is a tiered framework designed to identify and support students who are struggling academically or behaviorally. It aims to provide early, targeted interventions to prevent academic difficulties. Our RTI team meets each Thursday to review student attendance, academic, and behavior data to ensure that we are meeting the needs of all of our students. If you have any concerns about your child’s progress, you can reach out to our Student Support Teacher, Ms. Beecher at kabeecher@henrico.k12.va.us or your child’s teacher.
Room Parents
We are still looking for some parents to assist in our classrooms this year as a room parent in two classrooms:
3rd grade: https://signup.com/go/zovdEnb - Mrs. Waters’ Class
5th grade: https://signup.com/go/LKgytFi - Mrs. Green’s Class
Arrival Request
We are noticing an increase in Kindergarten–5th grade parents parking and walking their children into school each morning. For safety and efficiency, we kindly ask families to use the carpool line for drop-off whenever possible. Our staff is there to help, and using the carpool line keeps all of our Gators safe.
Student ID and Lanyard Reminder
Students must have their student ID and lanyard each day.

Friday, September 5 - Spilling the Tea with Mr. Stein @ 8:30 AM
Join Mr. Stein at 8:30 AM for his monthly virtual chat covering retakes, homework, testing, and gifted referrals.
Monday, September 8 – House Week Begins
This week, teachers will place a strong emphasis on our House System and how it supports Greenwood’s positive climate and culture. Students will learn house chants, callbacks, and the true meaning of each house. This is especially exciting for our PK and Kindergarten students, who will officially be placed into a house on Thursday, September 11.
Thursday, September 11 – PK & Kindergarten House Reveal/Back to School Night
All PK and Kindergarten families are invited to join us for a special edition of Back to School Night at 5:00 PM in your child’s classroom. Each student will be placed into a house—a major milestone at Greenwood! After a brief reveal, your child’s teacher will share a presentation reviewing the first few weeks of school, classroom routines, and what to expect for the rest of the marking period.
This is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions and ensure your child has a positive, successful year. House gear will also be available for purchase. To allow teachers to share important information, we kindly ask that younger siblings remain at home.
Thursday, September 11 – Back to School Night
We are excited to welcome all families to Greenwood for Back to School Night beginning at 6:00 PM. Families may attend one of three special sessions:
Art Room: Session with an Arabic translator
Music Room: Session with a Spanish translator
Library: Gifted Resource Teacher, Mrs. Walker, discussing the gifted referral process and what gifted education looks like at Greenwood
Classroom sessions will be held from 6:30–6:50 PM and 7:00–7:20 PM. Teachers will review highlights from the first four weeks of school and answer your questions. Your partnership is essential—attending ensures you understand classroom expectations, school routines, and ways to best support your child’s learning at home.
Friday, September 12 – Math Award Ceremony
We are thrilled to host our first award ceremony of the year on Friday at 7:20 AM in the gym to celebrate students who have demonstrated a love of mathematics. The ceremony will also be livestreamed into all classrooms and will conclude with a parent parade. Congratulations to all our award winners!
Friday, September 12 – The Heat & ADL Payments Due
If your child was selected for Advanced Dance (The Heat) or Advanced Drumline (ADL), payment (made payable to Greenwood PTA) is due by Friday, September 12. Please contact the main office at 804-261-2970 with any questions.
Friday, September 12 – Parent Directory Released
The Parent Directory will be shared this Friday (9.12). If you prefer your name and email not be included, please notify your child’s teacher as soon as possible. The directory is a great way for families to connect—whether for birthday invitations, playdates, carpooling, or team activities. It’s one of the many ways we help build community at Greenwood!
Tryout Information
We are so proud of every student who participated in tryouts for our advanced morning clubs! Congratulations to the students selected for The Heat and ADL. Please remember that both programs require payment by Friday, September 12 in order to continue, as they involve private lessons with outside coaches. If you have any questions about placements or the process, please contact Mr. Stein at rtstein@henrico.k12.va.us.
Please note that several of our advanced clubs require a payment, which is due by September 12. In each club, we had to make cuts, so if payment is not submitted on time, your child’s spot will be offered to another student. If your child misses two practices in a quarter, they will be removed from the club. Each of these advanced clubs will also require practice at home. Students who made an advanced club will receive a permission slip on Tuesday, September 2, and parents are required to return the signed permission slip by September 12. It is essential that students participating in these clubs are in their club by 7:20 AM, which is why we strongly request these students be dropped off at 7:10 AM. These advanced opportunities are designed to be elite, fast-paced, and highly engaging, giving students an experience that mirrors the commitment and discipline of competitive extracurricular programs.
