Sunday Greetings – 1.9.22

Sunday Greetings!

As you know, Henrico County Public Schools and Greenwood Elementary School are doing everything reasonably possible to keep you informed about health concerns that are connected to our school. With that in mind, I have an important message to share with you regarding the new rise in COVID numbers and what our action plans have been at the school.

This week our school reported 4 COVID-19 Cases and 2 Associated Exposures (close contacts) in the two days we were at school. This report does not include positive cases and/or associated contacts during winter break or from community exposure during that time frame.

We are also happy to report that we sent zero students home sick on Thursday, January 6! We can’t thank our parents enough for being the first line of defense for ensuring a healthy school environment by keeping your child(ren) home if they are experiencing any symptoms, reinforcing proper mask wearing and providing extra masks for your child, stressing the importance of hand washing or sanitizing, and maintaining open communication with the school. The concept of teamwork has never been more important than now. Our staff continues to rise to the occasion in stepping up and providing support for one another. Our goal remains the same: to provide a robust and rigorous academic experience.

Additional Safety Protocols @ Greenwood
Due to the rise in COVID numbers, we have put the additional safety measures in place to assure the safety of all students and staff.

  • Added additional spacing between desks and tables in the classroom.
  • Limited the number of students that can sit on the carpet for whole group reading and math instruction.
  • Added additional spacing between students at lunch if applicable.
  • Reteach and continue to reinforce the most updated Henrico County Public School safety protocols and procedures on the bus, classroom, hallway, bathroom, cafeteria, and recess.
  • If you would like to request plexiglass for the class and/or cafeteria please let your teacher know via email.
  • We have hired an additional lunch monitor to provide support with cafeteria safety procedures.
  • We have hired three additional instructional assistants to support students in the classroom.
  • We have hired an additional full time substitute teacher. We now have two on staff.
  • Newly designed committee dedicated to assuring our in person events are following all safety guidelines provided by Henrico County Public Schools. Our in person instruction and “magic” will continue!
  • Pep rally on February 4 will be streamed into our student’s classroom during the school day. No assembly in the gym.
  • Rescheduled assemblies/PTA in person events
    • Literacy Night on January 13 has been rescheduled to June 2, 2022.
    • Tatonka Unity Day and Assembly on January 14 has been rescheduled – TBD.
    • Parent Teacher Conferences on February 3 will offer both an in person and virtual option. Sign ups will be available on January 20, 2022 by Mr. Stein

Final Thought
Providing the “Greenwood Experience”  remains a top priority. Both our school and PTA have proven to be successful at pivoting and creating special and meaningful events, both in person and virtual, that keeps Greenwood feeling like “school.” Our instruction in the classroom remains robust and is specifically designed to meet each student’s social, emotional, and academic needs. Greenwood remains one of the highest achieving schools in the state of Virginia as indicated by the 2020 Board of Education Highest Achievement Award. We will continue to create moments and memories that touch our community’s heart and soul. We promise to never become complacent and remain wildly and unabashedly different!  Greenwood Elementary is a champion among schools!

If at any time I can be a service to you, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.  It is my goal to make our building inviting and inclusive for all families throughout the school year.  I value your feedback and suggestions. I look forward to you joining “Spilling the Tea” next Friday at 12:00 PM.
